Meet Sylvana. Sylvana is 36 years old and Dutch. She completed her Trinity CertTESOL course at TEFL in Spain in Malaga in February 2020. After working as a Behavioural Scientist for the municipality of Rotterdam and travelling for a few months, she decided to embark on a TEFL course in sunny Malaga.

TEFL in Spain:

I had been considering improving my didactic skills and my English for quite a while. I figured being an English teacher might open new doors for me. Because I didn’t have a job, it felt like it was now or never, the ultimate chance to do this course. So I started looking for TEFL courses online. TEFL in Spain was recommended via JoHo.nl, a trustworthy website in the Netherlands for travelling and working abroad. That’s how I found out about TEFL in Spain. I must admit, at first I was a bit sceptical, but after a very nice and informative video chat with the Centre Manager, I was determined to go to Málaga.

Malaga as a Location:

There are lots of things to do in Malaga: running along the seafront, relaxing at the beach, visiting the many museums, exploring the surrounding areas and countryside and one not to be missed is a trip to the Caminito Del Rey (gorge walk). The city has a great vibe with many good restaurants with excellent seafood. And the weather… spending 6 weeks in Málaga during winter gave me the right amount of vitamin D to survive the rest of the Dutch winter.

An Enjoyable Experience:

I enjoyed the engaging student-centered lessons from our tutors. I never felt bored, not for a single second. I truly learned a lot. I enjoyed being with my peers, there were 8 of us. The course was quite intimate, with many opportunities to get to know each other and opportunities for personalized feedback. And last but not least, I enjoyed the teaching practice, mostly because the students were great to work with.

The Course Tutors:

The course tutors were very knowledgeable, very kind, supportive and always enthusiastic. They always gave high quality feedback and were always willing to help. They helped me to reach my goals and to get the best out of this course.

Lifelong Careers Service:

The Careers Service was helpful, in the sense that it was inspiring. I must admit that the career session was quite overwhelming, with so much information that is worth checking later at home. However, I still haven’t looked back at all the slides, so I definitely can get more out of this than I do so far.

Course Aftercare:

I feel that I can e-mail the Trainers at TEFL in Spain at anytime with all kinds of questions and they always respond quickly. Apart from this, the Course Tutors are currently helping me and many other teachers prepare for online teaching. For example, they set up a video chat for a Q&A, they facilitated unobserved online teaching sessions, and they provided an example online lesson plan and class for us to observe.
